Pregnant woman missing from NW Indiana for more than a month

GARY, Ind. (FOX 32 News) — The family of a missing pregnant woman from Lake County, Indiana is making an emotional plea for help in finding their loved one and bringing her home.

Rochelle Stubblefield was 8 1/2 months pregnant when she disappeared more than five weeks ago. She was a student at Calumet College of St. Joseph, and she was also on the track team.

“We need her and baby Stubblefield home immediately. If anyone has any information, please don't be afraid to come forth, we need to find her,” said her cousin Lajuaina Riley as she battled back tears.

Gary Police say Stubblefield attended classes on November 10th and was last seen by friends attending the girls basketball game. Police did speak to several individuals after Stubblefield's family reported her missing, but those individuals are no longer cooperating.

“During the course of our investigation there was an arrest made, but at the time that we made the arrest there was not enough to hold him, so we had to let this individual go,” said Det. George Dickerson with the Lake County Metro Homicide Unit.

Investigators suspect foul play and say Stubblefield knew the suspect, but they declined to describe the nature of their relationship.

Police searched several locations, including one in Gary where they discovered some of Stubblefield's belongings, but Stubblefield's whereabouts remain a mystery.

“Rochelle was a sweet, kind, intelligent young lady, she went to school, she was the type of person to do anything that she could for anybody and to help them,” said her aunt, Faye Thomas.

Stubblefield, who is from Merrillville, would turn 21 on Christmas day.

“I remember this sweet little innocent face as a baby and taking care of her and watching her flourish and grow into the beautiful young lady that she is. We want our baby home,” said her cousin Lajuaina Riley.

Authorities say she was due to deliver her first child Dec. 15.

Stubblefield was wearing black jeans and a maroon sweatshirt with the college’s name on it, Gary Police Lt. Dawn Westerfield said.

The 5-foot-5, 135-pound black woman wears glasses and has pierced ears. Police said there has been no activity on her bank account or cell phone since she disappeared.
